A while ago, I wrote a set of painting poems using a few of John Singer Sargent’s paintings (you can these in the Gallery section of the sidebar). This spring, I decided to set three of these poems to music. I wrote the lyrics and melody with the intention of writing a choral arrangement for women’s choir; instead, I chose the better route and showed the music to my dear friend Sarah Hohstadt, who agreed to work with me to record the pieces. Over the summer, Sarah wrote the accompaniment and recorded all of the parts; all I really had to do was provide feedback and ask for a few changes. We both benefited from the collaboration, but I’m pretty sure I got the better end of the deal (she might argue that, but you’d best take my word for it—I know what I’m talking about ^^).
